The first female Texas Ranger major has been named. The Texas Department of Public Safety promoted Captain Wende O. Wakeman to the rank of major. Wakeman is the first female major in the 200 year history of the Rangers. She joined the organization in 2008. Prior to that she started with DPS in 1998.
